At a time when we look back to reflect over the past twelve months and look ahead with new year’s resolutions, wishes and expectations, I invite you to look up at the stars.
One of the experiences that I most miss in the city is to be able to marvel at a night sky full of stars and the sense of infinity that it brings. Looking up and catching a glimpse into the universe is something that was taken for granted for centuries and is now a rare sight for many humans and other living species.
For this reason, I am working on creating a series of artworks that pays a tribute to the night sky by recreating a map of the different constellations at different times and locations on earth with the help of an interactive sky chart. This process allows me to learn about the different constellations that are now invisible to me in the hope to get familiar with this ancestral knowledge and visual reference.
Maybe, one day, I will be in a remote area, look up and no longer see something amazing yet strange and foreign but will recognize the many constellations that inspired scientific curiosity and so many stories in the past.
This project is at it’s early stages. Feel free to let me know what you think and share your experience the night sky.
Wishing you warm and bright new year and until next time!
