Let threads and pink surround you

Let threads and pink surround you

I created my largest textile installation of Au fil des connexions / Over Connections for an exhibition entitled Parallèles : Forces féminines éclipsées (Paralèlles: Unseen Feminine Forces) at the Cambridge Art Galleries, which is open from October 4th to December 21st, 2025. Curated by Alix Voz, it includes works by “three artists who have distinct practices but highlight the feminine forces that are often invisible, yet very present in the world around us.” With textiles as the common thread and witness to stories that often go unnoticed, the exhibition highlights the essential contribution of women as guardians of culture and agents of technological developments that have revolutionized our societies. From the works on display to the exhibition design and choice of colours, everything converges to create a presence that is both gentle and powerful.

The installation is presented against a pink background, which I have become fond of (known as Baker-Miller Pink). This shade was introduced in prisons in 1979 to calm and control inmates. This pink has become associated with mechanisms of suppression and institutional control. Now introduced and re-appropriated in the gallery space by the curator, it symbolizes both the ongoing oppression and desire to constantly control women, but also the silent yet persistent feminine power. I really felt the calming effects of this shade during the installation at the gallery!

This installation calls on us to feel, to regain awareness of our bodies, to let ourselves be surrounded by the threads, to navigate through the mesh, to enter a new space, and to move in ways that are unfamiliar to us. Last but not least, it invites you to have fun! Children are the best at enjoying this work, but it is for all ages!

If you don't have the chance to visit the gallery, I invite you to leave your screen now and, if possible, stand up, feel the air around your skin, stretch your arms, and touch the materials around you. Then, if you feel like it, reply to this email to share your experience with me and tell me what marvels you in your daily life.

You deserve to be filled with wonder because you exist! A little wonder every day creates a life full of meaning.
