Au fil des paysages / Threads of Landscape
Cotton and polyester thread on cotton canvas
2017-present
I am fascinated by the colours of winter in Canada. I enjoy looking at the sky through the networks of naked branches, snowy white landscapes of trees extending into the horizon create a rhythm of black threads. Blurring the lines between figurative and abstract, this project is inspired by monochrome landscapes and developed through a technical experimentation on embroidery. Limiting myself to a black thread on a cotton canvas, this minimal process becomes more complex through the rhythms and cadences of the stitches and reveals a whole range of nuances in order to capture the visual poetry, the peace and the serenity that these northern landscapes bring me.
